Public Health Laboratory
The Public Health Laboratory is a section within the Environmental Health Directorate, which falls under the responsibility of the Department for Health Regulation within the Ministry for Health and Active Ageing.
This laboratory is an environmental and clinical testing laboratory and is responsible for checking compliance with relevant local and European Union legislation requirements. It is responsible for microbiological, chemical and tobacco related testing services.
Tasks carried out by the laboratory include:
- Monitoring/surveillance programmes
- Official Testing services
- National Reference Laboratory (NRL)
- Collaboration with Competent Authorities and the University of Malta
- Providing professional advice and interpretation of results
