Internal Auditing and Training Unit (IATU)

The Internal Auditing and Training Unit (IATU) within the Environmental Health Directorate (EHD) is responsible for ensuring compliance, consistency, professionalism, and high standards in the work carried out across all EHD units. This is achieved through internal audits, coordination of training activities, and the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.

Audits and Quality Systems

Ensures that all EHD units follow established procedures and uphold their legal obligations and internal standards.

  • Conducts internal audits to assess work practices and identify areas for improvement.
  • Follows up on audit findings to ensure that corrective actions are effectively implemented.
  • Oversees and maintains the EHD’s ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, ensuring ongoing compliance and readiness for external audits.
  • Maintains an up-to-date database of quality documentation.

Training and Development

Organises training for new and existing Environmental Health Officers (EHO) and supporting staff.

  • Organises training programmes for both new and existing Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) and supporting staff.
  • Identifies training needs and coordinates relevant courses, workshops, and professional development activities.
  • Maintains updated records of staff training and continuous professional development.
  • Supports and prepares EHD units for external audits.
  • Maintains a reference library of books, dissertations, and journals related to environmental health.
  • Coordinates with MCAST on the Environmental Health Officer degree programme and provides practical support through student placements.
